Founded in 1985, DSHPSHWA is dedicated to advancing the field of speech, language, and hearing within public health and welfare. We strive to improve programs, promote innovative research, and foster professional development to enhance the diagnosis, treatment, and care for individuals affected by these conditions, particularly children, ensuring comprehensive support and progress in public health initiatives.
Directors of Speech & Hearing Programs in State Health & Welfare have played a pivotal role for 30+ years, overseeing initiatives to address communication disorders. We advocate for early detection, treatment, and equitable access to services, while also shaping policy to enhance community health and welfare.
DSHPSHWA holds an annual meeting for the membership, usually in conjunction with the Annual National EHDI conference. This meeting shares Board accomplishments, provides educational sessions, and conducts elections for open Board positions. There is also a voluntary "State Gift Exchange" to promote networking.
